Vehicle Maintenance Technician

If you’re a Vehicle Maintenance Technician who knows your way around forklifts and heavy plant, this is probably going to make more sense to you than another job working on cars or vans all day.
Because that’s not what you’ll be looking after here.
You’ll be joining the Mobile Fleet Maintenance team on a large manufacturing site, keeping the vehicles and equipment that the operation relies on safe, serviced and running properly.
We’re talking FLTs and heavy plant.
Diesel, LPG and EV.
And when something isn’t working, you’ll be expected to work out why.
You’ll be servicing, maintaining and repairing the fleet, diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults and getting equipment safely back into operation.
Some jobs will be routine servicing.
Others won’t be quite so obvious.
You might be tracing an electrical fault, investigating a hydraulic issue, carrying out a mechanical repair or working through a service or parts manual to get to the bottom of a problem.
That variety is a big part of the job.
You’ll need a solid background working with FLTs or heavy plant and established experience carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs.
Ideally, you’ll hold an NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Plant or a similar discipline.
But the practical experience matters just as much.
You’ll need to be comfortable working across mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, with the diagnostic ability to find the actual fault rather than simply replacing parts until the problem disappears.
Welding experience will come in useful too.
You’ll understand how to work safely around this type of equipment, including a good knowledge of LOLER regulations, and you’ll be comfortable using workshop equipment, tools, service manuals and technical drawings.
You’ll be rewarded with a salary of £37,000–£40,000.
And this one is days.
Monday to Thursday, 8:00am–4:30pm and Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm.
You’ll mainly work independently on your own jobs, but you’ll be part of a wider Fleet Maintenance and Technical Services team, all working towards the same thing – keeping the site moving without compromising on safety.
There’s a CMMS system to update and every job needs recording properly, but ultimately they need someone who understands the equipment.
Someone who can service it.
Someone who can diagnose it.
And someone who can fix it.
So, if you’re already a Vehicle Maintenance Technician, FLT Engineer, Forklift Engineer, Heavy Plant Technician, Plant Fitter or Mobile Plant Engineer and you want a permanent days role where you can put that experience to use, this one is worth a conversation.
