Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Full Time

Teaching Personnel, working in partnership with the Special Partnership Trust, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a highly respected specialist school from September 2026.

Salary: £110–£120 per day
Hours: 8:45am – 3:45pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Start Date: September 2026

This specialist school is based in Dawlish and provides a highly supportive and inclusive learning environment for children and young people with a range of special educational needs. The setting supports pupils with complex learning difficulties, communication needs, autism, and associated needs, delivering a tailored curriculum designed to help every learner achieve their full potential.

As a HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. Working closely with teachers and wider multidisciplinary teams, you will help deliver engaging lessons, provide targeted interventions, and support pupils to achieve their individual learning and personal development goals.

The successful candidate will be confident leading small group activities, covering lessons when required, and adapting learning to meet a variety of needs within a specialist environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the planning and delivery of high-quality learning activities.
• Lead whole-class, small-group, and one-to-one sessions as directed.
• Cover lessons in the absence of teaching staff when required.
• Promote positive behaviour and support pupils' emotional wellbeing.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families, and external professionals.
• Assist in monitoring pupil progress and maintaining accurate records.
• Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• HLTA status or equivalent experience within an educational setting.
• Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, adaptable, and nurturing approach.
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.
• A commitment to supporting learners to achieve their full potential.
