Import Operations Coordinator – Customs Clearance – Thurrock - Up to £38,000 About the Company Our client is a well-established Freight Forwarding business with a strong reputation in the market. Due to continued growth, particularly across their Import and Customs Clearance operations, they are now looking for an experienced Import Operations Coordinator to join their busy Operations Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a customs and import professional looking to join a small, close-knit business where your work is visible and your input genuinely counts. You'll take real ownership of shipments end to end, working closely with a supportive team of five.
The successful candidate will ideally have 2–3 years' experience within UK Import Operations, Customs Clearance and/or Freight Forwarding.
Import Operations Coordinator – The Details - Fully office based
- Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:30, no weekend working
- Full time, permanent contract

Import Operations Coordinator – Requirements - Ideally 2–3+ years' experience in UK import operations, freight forwarding or customs clearance
- Solid working knowledge of the UK import process and what's needed to get cargo cleared and delivered
- Confident understanding of import documentation and the information a customs entry requires
- Genuinely organised, with a keen eye for detail
- Comfortable managing multiple live shipments at once and prioritising sensibly
- Confident and professional on the phone and over email, with customers and third parties
- Friendly and collaborative, happy working as part of a small team
- Able to work independently and take responsibility for your own files
- Desirable: familiarity with MultiFreight or similar freight forwarding/customs software
- Desirable: exposure to a range of commodity types and associated controls, able to complete a customs entry
Import Operations Coordinator – Responsibilities - Take ownership of import shipments from arrival to delivery, keeping every file moving and up to date
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading and other supporting documents for accuracy and completeness
- Identify missing or incorrect information early and chase customers, overseas agents and suppliers to resolve it
- Provide clearance instructions and required documentation to the customs manager, following through to release
- Apply UK import procedures correctly, including commodity codes, values, incoterms, duty, VAT and any additional controls or certificates a commodity may need
- Keep customers informed with clear, proactive updates by phone and email
- Liaise with hauliers, ports, depots and other third parties to keep delivery on track
- Maintain accurate records in the operating system, flagging anything that needs escalating
- Work closely with the wider import team, supporting colleagues during busy periods and absence
