Job Description:

Role: Infrastructure Engineer
Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum plus benefits

We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join an established organisation operating within the engineering and critical infrastructure sector.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business with a growing IT function, taking ownership of infrastructure modernisation, server migrations, cybersecurity and technical project delivery.

Candidates must demonstrate strong technical capability across Windows Server infrastructure, Hyper-V, Active Directory and complex infrastructure migration projects.

Reporting directly to the Head of IT, you'll play a key role in maintaining, improving and developing the organisation's internal IT infrastructure, working alongside an established technical team and acting as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, plan and deliver on-premises Windows Server migrations, infrastructure upgrades and server refresh projects.
• Administer, maintain and optimise Windows Server environments, ensuring performance, availability and security.
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, user permissions and access controls.
• Support, maintain and develop Hyper-V virtualisation environments.
• Support infrastructure migration and upgrade projects involving SQL Server, IIS and Remote Desktop Services (RDS).
• Administer Microsoft 365 hybrid environments, Azure, Entra ID and Microsoft Intune.
• Maintain and improve backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
• Support network infrastructure including switching, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs and WAN connectivity.
• Implement server patching, vulnerability remediation and infrastructure security improvements.
• Support cybersecurity initiatives, endpoint protection and Cyber Essentials Plus compliance.
• Act as a technical escalation point for the IT Service Desk.

Essential Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of experience working in IT Infrastructure, Systems Engineering or a similar technical position.
• Extensive hands-on experience designing and delivering on-premises server-to-server migrations, including infrastructure planning, implementation and migration activities.
• Strong Windows Server administration, configuration, troubleshooting and infrastructure management experience.
• Advanced knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy and Windows-based enterprise environments.
• Strong experience supporting and administering Microsoft Hyper-V virtualisation environments.
• Experience with server upgrades, infrastructure refreshes and complex technical migration projects.
• Experience supporting and migrating SQL Server, Internet Information Services (IIS) and Remote Desktop Services (RDS).
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365 hybrid infrastructure and associated Microsoft cloud technologies.
• Experience with networking technologies including TCP/IP, switching, VLANs, WANs and VPNs.
• Understanding of Networking and Firewall configuration
• Experience with backup, disaster recovery, patch management and vulnerability remediation.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Intune, Azure and Entra ID.
