Key Account Manager – Security (Government Contract)

Location: Birmingham – hybrid role with travel to Coventry, Cambridge, Norwich and Bristol

Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a highly experienced Security Key Account Manager to provide senior operational leadership across a portfolio of approximately 10 Government sites spanning two regions.
Job Overview
Working within prestigious and security‑sensitive Government environments, this role holds full accountability for the safe, compliant and high‑performing delivery of manned guarding and associated security services across all locations. Operating within an integrated facilities management and security model, the role ensures operational resilience, consistency and professionalism at all times.
The postholder will act as a trusted operational and contractual partner to Government clients and internal stakeholders, upholding the highest standards of confidentiality, governance and compliance. This includes adherence to national security standards, contractual obligations and site‑specific protocols, including SC and higher levels of vetting where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible, proactive leadership across all security services, including manned guarding, access control, control room operations and incident response, setting standards appropriate for sensitive Government environments.
- Act as the primary operational and contractual lead for Government security stakeholders, building trusted relationships through clear communication, structured reporting and strong site knowledge.
- Ensure full compliance with Government security policies, legislation and contract requirements, including vetting standards, access protocols, information handling and behavioural expectations.
- Maintain robust governance and assurance frameworks, ensuring all sites remain audit‑ready and compliant with internal standards, client requirements and industry best practice.
- Lead and oversee security incident management and escalation, ensuring consistent command, control, investigation and reporting processes across the portfolio.
- Provide confident leadership during high‑profile visits, VIP movements, protests and periods of heightened threat, ensuring security plans are effectively implemented.
- Lead, coach and develop geographically dispersed on‑site security management teams, promoting consistent standards, accountability and a strong security culture.
- Drive a culture of risk mitigation, safety, resilience and professionalism, ensuring security officers understand their role within Government environments.
Person Specification
- Proven experience in a senior security management or account leadership role delivering manned guarding and related security services across multiple sites within Government, regulated or high‑security environments.
- Strong operational expertise across security service lines, including static and mobile guarding, access control, control room operations, patrol regimes, key management and incident response.
- Demonstrated experience leading large, geographically dispersed frontline security teams, including workforce planning, vetting compliance, performance management, training and engagement.
- Proven capability in managing the financial and commercial performance of security contracts, including budget oversight, forecasting, cost control and identification of value‑add opportunities.
- Track record of delivering compliant, resilient operations within highly regulated environments, ensuring adherence to contractual, health & safety and Government security requirements.
- Experience leading security incident investigations, reporting, stakeholder communication and post‑incident improvement actions.
- Must hold a full UK driving licence due to travel requirements.
