Registered Manager – Neuro Complex Care & Rehabilitation Service
Service Overview

This specialist Neuro Complex Care and Rehabilitation Service supports individuals with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), complex neurological conditions, high nursing needs, and complex respiratory requirements. Delivering a unique blend of neuro-rehabilitation and high-acuity clinical care, the service is supported by a multidisciplinary team including Registered Nurses, Support Workers, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Psychology professionals.

Role Purpose

We are seeking an exceptional Registered Manager to lead and further develop this specialist Neuro Complex Care and Rehabilitation Service.

Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will hold overall responsibility for the performance, quality, governance, compliance, and operational management of the service. You will lead a multidisciplinary workforce, promote outstanding clinical and rehabilitation outcomes, and drive a culture focused on excellence, person-centred care, and continuous improvement.

The service currently holds a Good CQC rating and has significant opportunities for growth, increased occupancy, and further enhancement of its reputation as a leading provider of neuro-rehabilitation and complex care services.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Provide strong and visible leadership across the service.
Lead, support, and develop departmental managers, clinicians, and care teams.
Ensure the service delivers safe, effective, responsive, caring, and well-led support at all times.
Foster a positive culture built on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Clinical Governance & Quality
Work closely with the Clinical Manager to ensure the highest standards of nursing and clinical practice.
Oversee governance systems, audits, quality assurance processes, and action plans.
Drive improvement initiatives aimed at achieving higher CQC outcomes.
Ensure compliance with regulatory, legislative, and organisational requirements.
Neuro-Rehabilitation & Complex Care Excellence
Promote a rehabilitative, outcome-focused approach throughout the service.
Ensure individuals are supported to maximise independence, recovery, and quality of life.
Oversee the delivery of person-centred care plans tailored to complex neurological and respiratory needs.
Support effective multidisciplinary working across nursing, therapy, psychology, and support teams.
Service Development & Growth
Lead occupancy growth initiatives and strengthen referral pathways.
Develop relationships with commissioners, case managers, ICBs, hospitals, and wider stakeholders.
Support strategic business objectives and contribute to long-term service development.
Enhance the reputation of the service through operational excellence and positive outcomes.
People Leadership
Lead recruitment, retention, succession planning, and workforce development activities.
Ensure managers and team leaders receive effective supervision, coaching, and support.
Promote a culture of learning, wellbeing, and professional development.
Support the Clinical Manager with competency frameworks and clinical workforce development.
Financial Management
Take responsibility for budgetary performance and service profitability.
Monitor staffing, occupancy, agency usage, and overall resource management.
Ensure financial decisions support both quality outcomes and sustainable service growth.
Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements while maintaining high standards of care.
Risk & Safeguarding
Lead safeguarding investigations and ensure robust safeguarding practices.
Oversee risk management processes and incident investigations.
Ensure lessons learned are embedded across the service.
Maintain safe systems of work and a proactive health and safety culture.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with residents, families, commissioners, healthcare professionals, and community partners.
Act as the primary ambassador for the service.
Ensure excellent communication and partnership working across all stakeholder groups.
Essential Requirements
Significant management experience within complex care, neuro-rehabilitation, neurological services, brain injury services, or specialist nursing environments.
Proven experience managing CQC-regulated services.
Strong understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance, safeguarding, and risk management.
Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
Experience driving service improvement, cultural change, and occupancy growth.
Excellent knowledge of CQC fundamental standards and regulatory compliance.
Strong commercial awareness and budget management experience.
Ability to inspire, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
Registered Nurse qualification with active NMC registration.
Experience working within ABI, neuro-rehabilitation, complex care, respiratory care, or critical care services.
Experience working with multidisciplinary therapy teams including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, SALT, and Psychology.
Previous experience managing service turnaround, growth, or transformation projects.
Understanding of specialist commissioning pathways for neuro-rehabilitation and complex care services.
