Job Description:

Senior Estimator – Groundworks / RC Frames / Civil Engineering

Essex / Hertfordshire Borders
£85,000 - £110,000 + Package + Bonus

We are working with a leading groundworks, RC frame and civil engineering contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Estimator to strengthen their pre-construction division due to continued growth and an increasing pipeline of negotiated and tendered work.

This is a key appointment within a highly established contractor delivering large-scale residential, mixed-use and infrastructure schemes across London and the South East.

With turnover approaching £100m and ambitious plans to grow further over the next financial year, the business is investing heavily into its pre-construction team and is looking for commercially astute estimators capable of pricing complex groundwork and infrastructure packages.

The Senior Estimator’s Role

As a Senior Estimator, you will play a leading role within the pre-construction team, working closely with the Pre-Construction Director, Planners, Commercial teams and Operational delivery staff.

Projects typically include:

• Groundworks packages
• RC frame developments
• Roads & drainage
• Residential infrastructure
• Basements
• Large-scale mixed-use schemes
• External works and enabling works packages

Responsibilities will include:

• Leading complex tender submissions from enquiry through to submission
• Preparing detailed cost estimates and pricing strategies
• Measuring and pricing groundwork, drainage and infrastructure packages
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Managing subcontractor and supplier enquiries
• Value engineering and buildability input
• Supporting negotiations with clients and consultants
• Assisting in work-winning strategy and pipeline growth
• Mentoring junior estimators within the team
• Working closely with commercial and operational departments during project handover

The Senior Estimator

To be considered, you should have:

• Proven experience as a Senior Estimator within groundworks, RC frames or civil engineering
• Strong technical understanding of drainage, roads, earthworks and infrastructure
• Ability to independently price large-scale groundwork packages
• Experience on residential and mixed-use developments
• Strong commercial and contractual awareness
• Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously
• Good communication and leadership skills
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior staff
• Ideally live within commuting distance of the office
